THE DETAILS OF MY LIFE ARE QUITE INCONSEQUENTIAL...
Originally comprised of three members Kenji Kobe (guitar, vocals), Stanley Robinson (drums), and Geoff Brown (bass), the group formed in 1995 under the name 'The School Leaver's Social Slide', playing predominantly at friends parties. All three members attended and met at Wanganui City College. The group gathered a cult following after playing the 1996 local band showcase 'Rock It Town' where their quirky Alt-Punk resonated with the local punk and goth scenes. At this time the boys were playing frequent shows at a local underground haunt known as 'Raewyn’s Fence' (rip).
In 1997 Geoff Brown was head-hunted to join the steadily touring Pop-Punk outfit 'Grampire'. Kenji and Stan continued to play sporadically until calling it quits at the end of 2005. Both began to study Fine Art at Whanganui Quay School of the Arts in 2006 where they met fellow art students Dustin Rogers and Captain Rushworth. The four instantly clicked with each other and through a series of collaborative projects a new band was born in the form of 'A Forest Fires, The Bamboo Shoots'. As the efforts of the band spilled out of class time and into extended projects, they began to build up a steady following.
In 2007 they recorded a demo, which found its way into the hands of producer Peter Kevin who loved what he heard, and was excited about it enough to re-record the four track album at his Bell St Studio in early 2008. Kevin then passed the album over to long-time friend and head of And/Or Die Records, V.V. Blazing who signed the band immediately and released the Grooming Tips For The Upset EP on November 5, 2008.
The rest they say is history, except that it isn't, and the band continues to work and play the rock 'n' roll way.
